Q&A Luciano Bacheta
The British driver discusses his 2012 F2 title hopes
After a successful part season in Formula Two last year, British
driver Luciano Bacheta is looking forward to embarking on a full
campaign in 2012.
Despite competing in just two events last season, the
21-year-old instantly impressed by scoring points in all four races
he contested, including a best of fifth in Monza after a great
battle with fellow countryman Alex Brundle.
Bacheta, who is based in Essex, now hopes he can compete for the
2012 F2 title and the dream prize of a full test with the Williams
F1 team. Here's what the young Brit had to say when speaking
exclusively to formulatwo.com...
Congratulations on joining the FIA Formula Two Championship
for 2012 - how are you feeling about it?
I'm really excited to be driving in Formula Two this
season and to have it all confirmed so early is great as it means I
can get my head down and start focusing on the season ahead. It's
been a while since I was last in the F2 car too so I'm looking
forward to getting back behind the wheel.
Indeed, you enjoyed a successful part season last year
including a best of fifth - do you think you can carry that
momentum through this year?
Yeah I hope so. I really enjoyed all of the four races I
contested last year and was really impressed by the F2 team and
their set-up. At Monza, for instance, I was struggling a little
during practice and the guys pushed really hard to get me back up
the grid which paid off as I secured fifth in race two.
Given your previous single seater and F2 experience will
you be eyeing championship glory this year?
My aim is certainly to be at the front and of course I
would love to get my hands on the title but I know the competition
in F2 is going to be tough, especially from returning drivers. In
fact, anyone with a helmet on is competition!
2012 sees F2 using an upgraded and also faster car
featuring new Yokohama tyres - is this something you welcome?
Yeah it will be exciting to have a faster car as I think
it will be around two seconds quicker which will make a big
difference and is a big step up. I did struggle a little with the
tyres last year so I'm looking forward to trying the new ones
although these in themselves will have their own characteristics
which will take time to adapt to.
And finally, you'll be competing for the dream prize of a
full test with the Williams F1 team - what would that mean to
you?
It would be everything as it's such an amazing
opportunity. Few championships offer such a great prize so to get
this chance would be great but obviously I need to win the series
first!
