Watch the 2011 McLaren Autosport Award shootout
Exclusive footage of this year's driver assessment involving six F2 cars
Last month six young drivers went head-to-head to compete for
the prestigious prize of a McLaren Formula One test and
£100,000 in the 23rd McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.
The six hopefuls - Emil Bernstorff, Tom Blomqvist, Alex Lynn, Scott
Malvern, Oliver Rowland and Dino Zamparelli - spent two days at
Silverstone driving six identical JPH1B F2 cars in a bid to impress
the judging panel which included former F1 racer and BRDC president
Derek Warwick and two-time BTCC champion Jason Plato.
The shootout marked the second time F2 cars had been used for the
driver assessment process with the provisional of six 500bhp
machines significantly upgrading the evaluation process by allowing
all the drivers to be on track at the same time and in equal
equipment.
After two days of intense competition, 19-year-old Oliver Rowland
secured the honours, receiving his award earlier this month at a
glamorous ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel to follow in
the footsteps of former winners such as 2009 F1 world champion
Jenson Button and multiple IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti.
