Williams F1 Team unveil 2012 challenger
First glimpse of FW34 machine that 2012 F2 champion will test drive
The Williams F1 Team today (Tuesday 7 February) unveiled its new
Williams-Renault FW34 machine to the world's media - the same car
the 2012 FIA Formula Two champion will enjoy a prize test in.
Williams revealed its 2012 challenger at the Jerez de la
Frontera circuit ahead of the first of four days of official
Formula One testing at the Spanish venue. Returning driver Pastor
Maldonado and newly signed Bruno Senna were both on hand to
showcase the new car, along with Chief Operations Engineer Mark
Gillan. The new car sees the reunion of the multiple championship
winning Williams-Renault partnership, as the Oxfordshire-based team
switches from its previous Cosworth V8s to the engine that powered
Red Bull to the last two titles.
As with previous seasons, this year's Formula Two champion will
be awarded a full test drive in the FW34 during Formula One's
official rookie testing at the end of the year.
Williams has been a partner of F2 since the new era of the
series returned in 2009 with the Grove squad also responsible for
designing the JPH1 and subsequent JPH1B F2 cars.
F2 also has a proud record in the F1 rookie tests, with 2009
champion Andy Soucek setting the fastest overall time, 2010
champion Dean Stoneman going fifth fastest and last year's champion
Mirko Bortolotti running seventh quickest - all against a hugely
competitive field.
Places for the 2012 FIA Formula Two Championship are still
available. Interested parties should contact championship
coordinator James Gornall on +44 (0)1234 332439, +44(0)7872
