Williams Formula One test
The winner of the 2012 FIA Formula Two Championship will receive
the ultimate prize of a full test with the Williams F1 team, at
Formula One's coveted end of season rookie tests.
These tests are extremely valuable to drivers not only as a
learning experience and introduction into the world of Formula One,
but also as an invaluable way to ingratiate themselves into the F1
set up and lay down a marker to the watching teams.
The test is also invaluable as only a handful of drivers are
invited to tests for the teams each season - making the Williams
test the ultimate money-can't-buy prize.
F2 has a proud record in the F1 tests, with 2009 champion Andy
Soucek setting the fastest overall time, 2010 champion Dean
Stoneman going fifth fastest and reigning champion Mirko
Bortolotti recording the seventh quickest time - all against a very
competitive field.
This day is run in such a way as to fully evaluate the potential
of the F2 champion, and they consequently receive a tremendous
amount of track time, engineering support and technical advice -
invaluable for an aspiring young driver hoping to progress into the
upper echelons of the sport.
"It has been a really interesting day and a pleasure to drive
for the Williams F1 team. I have really enjoyed being here and have
learnt a lot from the engineers about how best to drive the
car."
Mirko Bortolotti - 2011 FIA Formula Two
Champion
"It's a huge thing to drive a Formula One car - it isn't
just another racecar, it's the best you can drive. It was a great
experience; the team were really supportive and I learned so much
just by being there!"
Dean Stoneman - 2010 FIA Formula Two Champion
"The test was a perfect day, a dream day. It was a pleasure
to drive for a team with such history, and they did everything they
could to make sure I showed my potential."
Andy Soucek - 2009 FIA Formula Two Champion
